Static L,S Edge (vertical)

Meaning

The Static L,S Edge (vertical) is used to connect transitions and places. With this edge it is very easy to connect two nodes when you cannot draw a straight edge between them.

A petri net edge is directed. The direction depicts the flow of tokens.

Utilization

The Static L,S Edge (vertical) is a very versatile edge and can have many different shapes.

Input Boxes

When you select the shape, it will show you its available input boxes. The gray description texts show the meaning of those boxes.

To enter text, click a second time (after selecting the shape), now on the desired input box, and finally start typing to overwrite or press F2 to edit an existing text. After you have entered text, the gray descriptions will no longer be visible.

Condition: The condition which must be fulfilled in order to pass this edge (a condition is only suitable if the source of the edge is a place and the sink is a transition).
Arc weight: The number of tokens which pass this edge (i.e. a replacement for "arc weight" number of edges with the same source and sink).

(Note: These texts only appear when the FMC Support Tools >= 2.0 add-in is installed. With an older version or no installed add-in there will be colored boxes.)

Control Points

A ) manipulates the shape of the edge
B ) moves the position of the condition text box
C ) moves the position of the arc weight text box

Hints

Arrows

You can connect two static L,S edges (horizontal and vertical) at their ends just like you can connect edges and transitions / places.

To remove the arrow from the first edge you can simply remove the line ends using Visio's standard tool "Line Ends" from the Format toolbar. For more details use the dialog Format -> Line and configure the settings under the category "Line Ends".
