Frame & Title Block

Meaning

The Frame & Title Block master provides you with a standardized layout for technical drawings.

Note: The title block at the bottom is identical to the Title Block. Look on the Title Block page for information how to use this shape.

Utilization

General Notes

  • When you drag a Frame & Title Block onto a diagram, it will create another page called "Background" and make it the background page for the current diagram page. The frame will be visible on both the diagram and the background page, but will be editable only on the background page. See Hints for detailed information.

  • Despite of where you drop the Frame & Title Block on the page, it will always be positioned to fit to the page. Therefore you cannot move it around.

  • You can use this shape for page sizes from DIN A4 on upwards. Smaller pages are not possible because the title block has a minimum width.

Control Points

A ) Changes the width of the top margin. You can choose between 5, 15 and 20 mm according to DIN 476 and DIN 823.

B ) Changes the width of the left margin. You can choose between 5, 15 and 20 mm according to DIN 476 and DIN 823.

The current widths will be shown in red colored text. This text is just a help during creation, it will not appear in printouts or exported images.

Hints

Background page

When you insert a Frame & Title Block onto a page, another page called "Background" will be created. The title block will be visible on both the diagram and the background page, but will be editable only on the background page.

In Visio each normal page can be assigned a background page. The objects on the background page will be shown behind the objects on the diagram.

To choose or delete a background page you have to select the normal diagram page and then go to File -> Page Setup... -> Page Properties. You can choose if a page is a Foreground (normal) or a Background page. Background pages will show up in the drop down list Background, where you can choose the page which acts as background for the current page.

When you want to delete the background page which was automatically created when adding the frame and title block shape, use the context menu.
